200-Hour Yoga Teacher Certification

As a student at Yoga Mountain, you are part of a legacy going back seventeen years, 3000 years actually, because we are steeped in the ancient tradition. We focus not only on the physical, so called, ‘fitness’ aspect of yoga but on meditation, mindfulness, breathing exercises, the body’s energy centers, social activism through yoga,  and therapeutic healing.

The 200-hour program is divided into three levels, and each level has specific postures, breaths, and mindfulness/meditation techniques to be thoroughly explored. Anatomy, the philosophy of yoga, teaching methodology, corrections and enhancements, the history of yoga, these are some of the many elements of the program. The student is required to attend a minimum of 180 hours in classes with the teacher trainers, who are all certified 500-hour experienced teachers. We get to know you well, for our program is individualized and hands-on.

We meet once a week on (your choice of) Wednesday nights from 7:30 to 9:30 pm, Thursday mornings 10-12pm, and once a month for week-end workshops. Some students fly through the program, attending every available class, and others take much longer due to family, illness, or work demands.

The program is on-going. It continues throughout the year. When you finish, you graduate. The pace is controlled by you, the student. We do everything we can, however, to keep you on track and moving along rapidly.

The cost is $2,950, which includes your orientation packet and all workshops and classes. Books on the reading list are separate, but you will want them for your personal library.

Call Gail Walsh 845-451 7975 for information and the application packet.

Professional Yoga Therapy Certification Program

The Professional Yoga Therapy Program is a one-year program consisting of 100 contact hours and 100 hours of field work (including case studies). A registered 200-hour Teacher Certification completion is required before entry. If you have already completed a registered 500-hour certification program, the hourly requirement is lowered to 50/50. The therapy program is commonly (but not always) embedded into the (300)500-hour YM Teacher Certification Program as a specialty.
The curriculum is presented through lecture, discussion, observation, hands-on practice, diagnostic process and prescriptive practices. The skills that will be developed are intake, client-therapist relations, process plan creation, implementation, adaptation, documentation, evaluation of effectiveness of process, and follow-up.

Yoga Therapy has become widely accepted as a viable form of alternative healthcare.
Yoga Mountain has been a member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT) since Gail Walsh was approved by Oxford Health Plans and HIP as an alternative caregiver in 1992. We are charter members of the IAYT, and published an article on yoga for children with learning and/or emotional disabilities in the Journal Supplement at their international convention in LA in 2007.

Gail Walsh (gailwalsh@verizon.net)  has certified Yoga Teachers to specialize as Yoga Therapists in this field since 2005. She is approved by Oxford Health plans and HIP, NY as an Alternative Health Care Provider since 1998.
Gail Bentley Walsh and Lynn Milstein published a study about the Yoga Mountain therapeutic yoga program in the Rockland BOCES School System in the supplement to the IAYT Journal in 2007.
